The Most Addicting Crispy Tofu EVER.
Ingredients
1 package extra-firm tofu
3 tbsp cornstarch
1/4 cup soy sauce
5 tbsp sesame oil
2 tbsp neutral oil
1 tbsp mirin
2 tsp orange juice
1 tsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp honey or agave
sesame seeds - optional for garnish
scallions - optional for garnish
Directions
Remove tofu from the packaging and set on a thick layer of paper towels or a dish towel. Place another paper towel or dish cloth on the tofu and something heavy. Let sit for 15 minutes. Cut the tofu into squares and toss the cubes in 2 of the tbsp of cornstarch. Heat a pan on medium-high heat and pour the oil and 2 tbsp of sesame oil. When the oil is shimmering, place the tofu cubes on the pan and let brown for appox. 4 mins. When the tofu if crispy on one side, flip. Let brown for another 4 mins. In a separate pan, combine remaining tbsp sesame oil, soy sauce, mirin, orange juice, oyster sauce, sweetener, and the remaining cornstarch. Whisk until the sauce is thick and glossy. Drain the oil from the pan with the tofu and pour the sauce over the tofu. Mix until all the tofu is coated in the sauce. Garnish with sesame seeds and scallions. Enjoy!
